Interested in strengthening your creative and critical thinking skills? Stop by our Ask Me About Creative Thinking table to explore how creative thinking supports thoughtful analysis and problem-solving. Learn about Education Commons resources at Penn Libraries, including makerspace, digital tools, and strategies that help you generate ideas, approach challenges, and make meaningful connections in your academic and creative work.
Creative thinking isn’t just imagination; it’s an essential component of critical thinking. By experimenting with new perspectives, questioning assumptions, and connecting ideas, you’ll gain tools for deeper inquiry and more innovative work. Chat with Tex Kang to explore tools and strategies that can help you think differently about your research and projects.
Learning Goal:
Help participants understand the relationship between creative thinking and critical thinking and introduce them to library resources that support imaginative and analytical work.
Learning Outcome:
Participants will be able to articulate how creative thinking contributes to critical thinking, identify relevant library tools and spaces (such as makerspaces and digital resources), and apply at least one creative thinking strategy to their own academic or creative projects.
Korean shield kites (Bangpae Yeon) are uniquely designed – their rectangular shape and central hole allow them to be guided up, down, left, and right. This maneuverability is essential in the traditional art of Kite Fighting, in which fliers use friction between the strings to cut loose their opponent’s kite. Kites are also symbols of good luck during Lunar New Year; decorated in bright colors, they are released into the air, carrying misfortunes with them.
Join us at the Penn Museum to learn more about the history of Korean Kites, view kites from the late Joseon Dynasty, and make your own kite to take home.
Dinner and materials are provided.
