Akbar Hossain (L’18) currently serves as the Secretary of Policy and Planning for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Prior to his appointment to Governor Josh Shapiro’s cabinet, Secretary Hossain served as the Executive Director of the Shapiro-Davis Transition and as Policy Director on the Shapiro for Pennsylvania gubernatorial campaign. Previously, he was a white collar government investigations attorney at Morgan Lewis and served as a law clerk at the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He has been recognized nationally as a Harry S. Truman Scholar, a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellow, and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network. Secretary Hossain has a Bachelor’s Degree from Franklin & Marshall College and a Juris Doctor from University of Pennsylvania Law School.

In David Adjmi’s (Tony Award playwright of Stereophonic) contemporary take on the young queen of France, Marie is a confection created by a society that values extravagance and artifice. But France’s love affair with the royals sours as revolution brews, and for Marie, the political suddenly becomes very personal. From the light and breezy banter at the palace to the surging chants of “Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité!” in the streets, Marie Antoinette holds a mirror up to our contemporary society that might just be entertaining itself to death.
Arts House shows are diverse and multimodal, as we combine videos and live dancing to create an exciting experience for the audience. We always have a large audience who enjoys the music, lights and dancing that come together to create a super fun show. Audience members are predominantly students, however, they are extremely diverse as well, and come from a broad variety of clubs, groups, and communities at Penn. Our audiences have just as much fun as we do throughout the entirety of the show and are not afraid to voice their support through lots of cheering!

Redefining Possibility: From First-Gen Student to Higher Education Program Creator

About Frank Garcia-Ornelas:
Frank Garcia-Ornelas is a proud first-generation college graduate, higher education leader, and the inaugural Associate Director of Brown University’s Bridge Scholars Program. Raised in Kansas City, Frank’s path from a first-gen student at the University of Missouri-Kansas City to earning his Master of Social Work from Boston College laid the foundation for a career rooted in access, equity, and student empowerment. Over the past decade, he’s held key roles at institutions including Boston College, the University of Pennsylvania, and Brown, designing programs that center belonging, leadership, and success for students from historically excluded communities.
At Brown, Frank created the Bridge Scholars Program, a six-week summer bridge program supporting first-generation and low-income students through credit-bearing courses, mentorship, and holistic support. Affectionately known as “Tío Frank” by students, he leads with heart, authenticity, and an unshakable belief in the brilliance of those who often go unseen.
His story is a testament to what’s possible when we break barriers and build the programs he once needed but didn't have access to.
