The Six Stages of Modern Connection Film Screening
A private film screening of "The Six Stages of Modern Connection", an illuminating short film on Black and Asian gender identity!
The screening will be followed by a reception to open the accompanying immersive exhibition created by Penn C'24 and Bangkok Pride Award nominee Timethius J., in collaboration with partners from the University of Pennsylvania, Chulalongkorn University, and the COLOURS Organization. After the screening, there will be a short Q&A discussion with Timethius J. and Director of Penn Office of Interpersonal Development and Engagement, Malik Muhammad, on the development of the project and key themes captured in the film.
"The Six Stages of Modern Connection is a 'visual poetic anthology' that captures the journey of "Blue", a young queer Black man, as he explores the complexities of attraction and identity in the modern day. Through a series of scenes accompanied by narrating poetry, we follow Blue’s growing feelings for "Red", an Asian acquaintance with a tumultuous journey of his own, and the emotional terrain he must navigate as he decides to make the first move. Confronting past experiences of racial profiling and fetishization, Blue balances his own queer expression against the backdrop of societal expectations while deciding whether to make the first move."
