Black like me: A case for Nigerian collegians
In this talk, Dr. Anugom submits established scholarly projects reinforce a “model minority” or model Black immigrant narrative that maintains anti-Black racism, in ways that promotes a color-blind agenda that creates a racial wedge between other racialized minority groups, namely African Americans. Dr. Anugom’s presentation will1) identify and interrogate literature both scholarly and narrative on U.S. Black collegians;2) employ research findings and work that indicts the lack of recognition of model minority and model Black narratives in well-established scholarly projects; and3) re-conceptualize the ways in which we study and serve Black students with transnational backgrounds.
