More about Prof. Andrea Liu, our keynote speaker:

Dr. Andrea Liu graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1984 and obtained her Ph.D in Physics from Cornell University in 1989. After completing a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at Exxon, Dr. Liu joined the University of California, Los Angeles faculty in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. She arrived at Penn in 2004 and since has been conducting research in soft matter physics ranging from jamming in glassforming liquids, foams and granular materials, to biophysical self-assembly in actin structures and other systems.

Parking/Public Transit Information:

Penn is convenient to the SEPTA regional rail and the Market-Frankfort elevated line, as well as many bus lines. For stops, connections, and train times SEPTA plan-my-trip is helpful.

Abundant street parking is available along Walnut Street from 31st to 34th Streets, and along 33rd St from Spruce to Market. Current on-street parking rates are $2/hr, quarters or Philadelphia Smart Cards only. Most meters have been replaced with kiosks.

A map of Penn parking facilities can be found here. We suggest pay lots 1 and 19 as most convenient to Houston Hall. The parking fee is $5/day on Saturdays.

The closest free parking is available in Penn lot #45. To enter this lot, take Chestnut to 31st Street. Turn right on 31st Street; at the end of 31st Street, turn right on Jones Way, then an immediate left ( follow the signs for the Levy Tennis Pavilion/Bowers Field/WXPN parking). Drive along a fence-lined access road to the first right into Levy Tennis Pavilion. Turn left to reach lot #45. Stairs from the lot will bring you up next to Franklin Field.
