Planting Traditions: Earth Day at Penn

Since 1974, Penn has upheld a tradition with the Morris Arboretum to plant a Class Tree each Fall during Homecoming weekend. Founders William and Kathlene Hohn's hoped that 'through the placement of distinctive trees over time, the appearance of campus can be dramatically influenced while building pride for each class.'

Although the tree planting cannot be accomplished this year, we hope to maintain this tradition. This Earth Day, Thursday, April 22 from 12:30 - 2:00 PM, Penn Traditions will be hosting a Grab & Go behind Sweeten Alumni House (3533 Locust Walk) delivering succulents to students. This way, we can still celebrate and each take home some spirit in the form of a succulent. If you are not on campus, we will mail you a packet of seeds so you can take part in this tradition wherever you are! Then, next year, we hope all Penn students will join the Class of 2024 to plant our Class Tree as we leave a permanent, ever-growing mark on campus!

Deadline to register to receive seeds: Wednesday, April 14 (please note we can only ship to domestic students)
Deadline to register to pickup a succulent at Sweeten Alumni House: Monday, April 19
