The Fierce Urgency of Now: Queering Black Christianity in Unprecedented Times

National nonprofit Pride in the Pews and Penn’s LGBT Center, Makuu: Black Cultural Center, Chaplain’s Office, and the Christian Association will host a series of in-person, on-campus events from Friday, October 28th, 2022 – Saturday, October 29th, 2022 to celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month. The two-day event, The Fierce Urgency of Now: Queering Black Christianity in Unprecedented Times, will bring together local faith leaders, activists, and academics to celebrate the historic and present-day role Black LGBTQ+ Christian leaders play in advancing social movements.

We will co-host three public events: a faith-based, community-based panel discussion on LGBTQ+ equality, an interactive storytelling event showcasing LGBTQ+ Christian voices, and a brunch highlighting the importance of faith-based activism on issues such as voting rights, women’s rights, and marriage equality.
