Dolores Huerta Lecture
Each year this event gives the Penn community an opportunity to welcome a prominent person in the Latinx community to campus and learn from and be in conversation with their work/ideas. This year’s lecture will be delivered by Melissa Gallarado, founder and CEO of Bonita Fierce Candles, a candle brand that celebrates Latinx heritage and home by promoting visibility and inclusivity. Melissa is a first generation American, Salvadoreña, and New Yorker. Melissa’s talk will focus on her journey becoming a Latina business owner while navigating the intricacies of language, culture, and heritage as a brown, non-Spanish-speaking Latina. A meet and greet reception will take place after the lecture in the Huntsman Program building.
